Yohji Yamamoto has the Midas touch. everything single silhouette he reworks automatically becomes a future iconic. Take 2016’s Pureboost ZG for example. A shoe that was once seen as the poor man’s Ultra Boost, it has an average resale price of around £700 even three years later! Now, the legendary Japanese designer is about to reimagine yet another three stripes silhouette, this time working on the classic FYW S-97!
Revived earlier this year, the FYW S-97 made its debut back in 1997 and is one of adidas’ first running sneakers to come with Feet You wear technology. Y-3’s take is crafted from a stretchy Primeknit and is overlaid with buttery smooth suede and ultra luxe leather panels. A TPU cage wraps around the forefoot to form the lacing system, and down below, Yamamoto has, for the first time ever, given the shoe a full length boost midsole. To round it all off, his signature shoots across the lateral side walls, completing the avant-garde aesthetic.
Set to release in two monochromatic colourways, the Y-3 FYW S-97 will arrive at adidas and select stockists on July 18th. let us know which pair you’ll be adding, and while you’re here, be sure to take a look at the full adidas sneaker range!
